Typical day for au pairs

Take time to explore, study and enjoy life in the USA, balanced with your childcare responsibilities.

Main role

Caring for children

Every host family is different. Some families have toddlers, some have kids at school and some have both. To support the children and their daily routine you might:

Wake the children up, help them get dressed and ready for the day

Prepare breakfasts and school lunches

Drop off and pick up from school or daycare

Organise playtime, crafts or help with homework

Drive them to sports clubs or other group activities

Help with bath time and bedtime routines

You’ll work up to 45 hours per week, with time off every week and at least one full weekend off per month.

Day in the life

Most host families have working parents and the au pairs help support them with their busy schedules  Every new day is a different day!
