Parent zone

Our Au Pair program has been a trusted opportunity for young adults for nearly 40 years. Our parent company has been running exchange programs, such as Camp America, for over sixty years.

Personal growth

Building a successful future

The au pair year is a rewarding opportunity for young people to:

Gain practical experience in a responsible, live-in childcare role

Build language and intercultural communication skills

Become more independent, confident and adaptable

Learn to manage routines and experience living away from home

Study a course they are interested in part time at an American college

Explore another country affordably

Meet new friends from around the world on the program

Participate in volunteering opportunities in their local communities

Many of our former au pairs return to their studies with new maturity and purpose. Many go on to careers in childcare, education, healthcare, travel or international business. All have a unique experience to add to their CVs.

Safety

A safe, government-regulated program

Au Pair in America is an official sponsor appointed by the US Department of State. That means we are legally responsible for every stage of the program, from screening and matching of au pairs and host families, to wellbeing and safety during their stay. Our commitment covers:

Carefully screening all au pair applicants and host families

Providing comprehensive training in childcare and first aid

Providing specialised training for driving in the USA

Helping with and approving visa paperwork and pre-departure preparation

Assigning each au pair a local community counsellor in the USA, who stays in regular contact and provides monthly social meetings for au pairs in their region

Offering 24/7 support in case of emergency

Our promise

Ongoing support

Support throughout the program

We provide local support for the application and visa process. We provide practical support throughout the program to ensure everything runs smoothly in the USA. We also provide support to ensure the wellbeing of our participants.

Each au pair has a local interviewer appointed who will ask them questions about themselves and help them create their au pair profile. They will also do an official interview to create a report for host families to read. This is a requirement of the program, and will help your daughter or son match with the right host familiy.

In the USA our team of staff recruit and interview all host families to make sure they are suitable for the program. Our tstaff personally visit every host family home to ensure it is suitable for an au pair to live there. They meet every adult member of the host family who lives there too.

On arrival in the USA, the au pair is given a dedicated community counsellor, who:

host family
Meets the au pair and host family within two weeks of arrival
Phone
Keeps in contact regularly by phone, text message and in person
Smiley
Organises monthly meetings and social events for all the au pair in the area to meet each other
Chats
Is available for advice when needed

Our US team is available 24 hours a day in case of emergencies.
